Oingo Boingo Picture
Frontman Danny Elfman's older brother, Richard, actually started the band, later handing leadership down to his brother once he decided directing was his way to go. This hyperkinetic New Wave band is characterized by their manic live performances and eclectic range of songs, Elfman and the band performed for a remarkable twenty years. The Californian band, a paired-down version of the theatrical troupe The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, released eight major albums and two live compilations, each containing songs that varied from fast-paced ska to soulful jazz to emotional rock to off-kilter pop. Their style can best be defined as "undefinable." Now mostly known for their frequent contribution to movie soundtracks (including their most succesful song "Weird Science") Oingo Boingo formally broke up in 1995 after their last Halloween live concert; the reason being that 'it was time.' Since the band's dissolution, frontman Danny Elfman has continued to find success in his career writing film scores, particularly in collaboration with director Tim Burton; he almost exclusively employs Boingo guitarist Steve Bartek as orchestrator. His film scores have included Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Good Will Hunting, Men in Black, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, Big Fish, and dozens more.

Pain Lyrics

Oingo Boingo

Welcome to my little world...completely self-contained, yeah
Your problems they will soon be gone (we soak up lots of pain), yeah
If life is a reflecting pool--then we are like a sponge, yeah
Absorbing the good with the bad--we soak up...soak it up
So give me all your troubled thoughts
And baggage you cant handle, no
Well gladly take it off your back (we soak up lots of pain), yeah
(chorus)
Is it any wonder now-everybody goes insane
Everybody locks the door to keep out any strangers
Everybodys all pent up--everybodys got short fuse
Getting ready to blow up, we live in so much danger
Boys and girls in a line -- come and get your big reward
Yourre not too late just in time
Put your hand on mine youre mine youre mine
When everybody has gone to bed--and children are asleep, yeah
I sit up late and watch t.v. (and soak up lots of pain), yeah
Little junior on the bus--his notebook by his side, yeah
He hardly ever makes a fuss--he soaks up so much pain
Weve traveled far this monkey and me--by airplane boat and train, yeah
Were here to eat up all your sins (and soak up all your pain), yeah
(chorus)
Boys and girls of every creed--religion and persuasion, nooo
Its time to get up off your knees...we soak up...soak it up
So open the door and let me in--dont question who I am, no
Just shake my hand and give me your name (we soak up...soak it up...)
